2016 MEMORIAL DAY INVITATIONAL

This year’s host for the May 27 - 29 event was the Los Angeles Club who alternates with Sacramento and Tucson for this Federation of Chinese Golf Club’s sanctioned event.  Tucson joined the rotation in 2015 and Sacramento will be the 2017 host.

For the newcomers, the other invitational date is Labor Day which is hosted by the Inter-city clubs which includes the rotation of the Vancouver, BC, Portland, Victoria, BC and the Cascade Club in Seattle.  This year’s Labor Day host will be Vancouver, BC.

The Los Angeles Club played host to over 50 golfers that played the 36 hole event on two interesting courses, Coyote Creek in Fullerton and Sierra Lakes in Fontana.  The Coyote Creek Course, players found many tight lies that caused problems for first timers with hidden creeks on many holes.  The Sierra Lakes Course was more player friendly, but had many carries that played tough for the short hitters.

The socials included the East Buffet in City of Industry and the Awards Dinner at the Seafood Village in Rowland Heights.  At the Awards Dinner, all winners received cash as well as trophies for Low Gross and Low Net in each of the five  flights as well as field winners.  As indicated in the Winners Listing, cash was awarded to the second through fifth winners in several of the flights.  A special Mystery Hole was selected and any player who netted a birdie on that hole won money as well.  On Saturday, 15 players won $15.00 each. On Sunday, 12 players won $20.00 each.  The free drawing for $500.00 was won by Andy Sheih.  You would have to believe that the host club subsidized some of the cash prizes?

General Chairman Steve Vines who had total control with his committees did an excellent job in keeping the field informed of all  of the activities.  Congratulations for a great job.
