The following group of labs is used with permission from the original authors, Kathleen Holley and Cheryl Brooks, Ft. Worth, TX. Their local theme park is named Six Flags Over Texas, so their original work was keyed to that park.In their labs, the teachers ask the students to study a ride of one sort or another. Examine the ride to determine what you can measure and calculate, specifically what you can determine in two different ways. The procedure is not given to the students before attending the park.
Then the students carry out their measurements and complete the writeup as their assignment.
The rides have been broken into several categories. In the pages that follow, rides from California's Great America have been substituted so these pages can be used during Physics, Science & Math Days. A web page presentation of each page is linked below, and also a MS Word version that can be downloaded, modified, then printed.
