Webmaster description as it has evolved
over the years |
When the idea of having a website was proposed it was met with enthusiasm by the Board. As it evolved to now incorporate online signup for tournaments, it has become a focal point for the club members. In practice, I use a variety of tools, most of which have little or no cost. Web authoring is done via the SeaMonkey program from Mozilla. We have space on the webmaster's account on iPage, and maintain our domain name through a service. Signup for tournaments is done via Google Docs, again with little or no expense. Weekly, when the tournament is done and the pairings are released for the next week, I take down the links to the signup sheet so things are in the hands of the scheduler for that week. Updates are made every month or so allowing members to sign up for tournaments they wish to play in. We use a general password for club members so the Members-Only pages are protected. This happens through iPage. News, CTP winners and Team play winners, all receive space on our pages. And the website is also where potential members can learn about what the Board does and key decisions they make. ______________________________ Starting in 2022, we instituted Team Play approximately once a month. The members seem to really enjoy the Scramble format but other formats have been used and even more will unfold over time. Due to the webmaster's experience in his other club handling team play, he has volunteered to head up the Team Play for RIGG. Scorecards are developed and printed via BlueGolf, a service contracted by NCGA. Using customized Excel files, scoring is done at the courses and results are communicated to the club via email and posts online. ______________________________ If you have some experience with web authoring and website procedures, let the webmaster know so he can bring you into the process and potentially hand it off to you at some point.
